The One Thing that will always Make you Happy!!!
In High School and college I belonged to an organization called DECA/DEX. It is a student run non-profit organization that teaches students how to become marketing/management professionals and entrepreneurs.
In High School I ran for a chapter officer position in the organization. I competed in events against other students where we had to put together a business plan or sales promotion plan and present it to judges. The judges scored each student and the top student in the state got to go to a National event and compete against kids all over the nation.
When I ran for an office the first time I wasn’t elected. When I competed in an event the first two times I didn’t make it to the next level of competition. Some would have said my experience at that point was a failure. Most students would have probably quit and said it wasn’t worth it only to find that years later they learned a ton from the experience.
I however, kept going. I ended up applying for other officer positions, competing again in new events and learning all I could. Because the organization was focused on marketing, management and entrepreneurship I knew it was something I wanted to do in the future and something that would provide me the experiences I would need.
I eventually became a State Officer and National Officer for the organization. I finished in 1st place in the state twice in two competitive events and in the Top 5 in the nation. The time I spent with this organization is what made the shift for me in my confidence I have today. Confidence in your self is the key success. My experiences with DECA/DEX gave me the confidence to take steps to start my own business and do so many other things in my life.
I believe it’s important for everyone to build their self-esteem and confidence. I also believe that once you find that confidence you not only need to do something with it, you should give back to others to help them reach that level of confidence as well.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to give back to the DECA/DEX organization financially, but also with my time. It’s important to find ways to support others and do what you can to make a difference in their lives. I like supporting this organization not just because the impact it had on me, but also because it builds the confidence of our youth today. It’s important to keep building future marketers, managers and entrepreneurs.
If you would like to join me in supporting our future entrepreneurs financially or with your time, send me an email with your name and how you would like to participate. Every dollar and hour help, so nothing is too little. I will put you in contact with the organization representative directly so you can choose how best to work with them.
Together we can make a difference in the lives of our youth and continue to grow the entrepreneurial spirit of America. Yes, the one thing that will always make you happy is “giving back”.

This article impressed me. I believe that the most important thing one can do with their life is to help others, especially the young. I would like to contribute by offering my services to write short inspirational advice notes to future entreprenuers. I have a several degrees in business including a doctorate in management and organizational design. I also have over 35 years in public and private sector positions of leadership. I have published in a number of referred professional journals. I am currently running a small business with my daughters and writing for a local business newsletter. If your organization can use my experience and skills I am willing to work with you. I read your articles on a continuing basis and they all check with my experience to date. Keep up the good work.
I am interested in volunteering.
